The Development of Gender Identity in Children: An Overview for Patients and Caregivers

This health education workshop will review basic terms and definitions about gender identity. We will review what to expect based on developmental stages and discuss case scenarios. We will also discuss how to best support children in their gender identity journey.

By the end of this presentation, parents or caregivers will:

• Define or understand common terms related to gender identity (sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation)
• Identify what to expect related to gender identity based on the age
• Discuss various strategies for supporting their child with their gender identity
