Feet are your body’s foundation, keeping your feet healthy is important for your overall health.

Our feet are a complex part of our body with many bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Years of wear and tear can be hard on your feet. Also, many things can lead to injuries and disorders of the foot and can impact how you move.

Here are some things you can do to maintain good foot health:

  • Wear proper shoes
  • Ensure your shoes fit properly (neither too tight nor too loose)
  • Ensure your shoes have proper cushioning and traction
  • Take breaks and rest your feet throughout the day
  • Wash your feet often and clean between your toes
  • Trim your toenails
  • Use lotion on your heels to prevent cracked skin
  • If you know your feet will be sweating, change your socks as soon as you complete the activity
  • Speak to your primary care provider if you have any concerns about your feet
